Poised to sustain its achievements and surpass the word excellence in Lagos, Lagos State Government has said that it is repositioning the state through training and retraining of it workforce in the state civil service.

The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr.  Akintola Benson Oke disclosed this while presenting his keynote address at the two-day workshop tagged: “Effective Strategic Management for Repositioning and Higher Responsibilities” Organized by the Ministry in conjunction with Messrs Novo Consult Limited held in Lagos.

According to him Lagos State have flagged off various training, seminars and programmes aimed at making the civil service of the state more proactive.

He said the training is aimed at re-strategies its workforce in the civil service, adding that the state want to ensure that its workforce get the best of training in the country.

“As you know the workforce are the real engine of growth and our workforce is the best in the whole of Nigeria. So the governor in his wisdom have decided to ensure continuous  and adequate exercise to enable the public  service in the state which is the real engine room to compete effectively with their counterparts not only in Nigeria but in United Kingdom, United States  and around developed economies.

“We are not limiting our success to only Nigeria,we are thinking outside the box to make public servants who are regarded as engine to compete favourably in any condition they see themselves across the country, Africa and in the world. That is why the governor has approved this training.

Speaking further on the theme of the workshop, he said: “The importance of strategy, strategic planning, and strategic management has been proved and validated over the years and, in fact, over the centuries. From the writings of Aristotle to the compiled wisdom of Oriental philosophers such as Sun Tzu, and from the ancient history of Europe to regnant modern day business philosophies, one finds that to have a strategy is half the battle and to effectively manage a good strategy is everything.

“The opening statement above underscores the importance of this seminar for the Lagos State public service. It is my delight that this particularly training was approved and is to be delivered today. The enormous value that knowledge and skills training bring to bear on the attainment of the strategic objectives of the government and the public service of Lagos State has long been emphasised by His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to whom we owe a debt of gratitude for many of the impactful and resourceful trainings and seminars that the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions (MET&P) has been executing in recent times.”

It is my expectation that all participants would obtain a firm grasp of some of the fundamental steps and fully comprehend the demands they make on management before the end of the training.

Earlier in his address, the Speaker of the House of Assembly Lagos State Hon Mudashiru Obasa represented by Chairman House Committee on Establishments, Training, Pensions and Public Service Hon. Adedayo Famakinwa said that the state will continue to appropriate funds to make sure the civil service workforce are well trained to meet prompt service delivery in the state.
